Greifswald, Usedom und Ruegen
We have travelled the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern coast with Greifswald, Stralsund, Ruegen and Usedom in 2012 and 2017 and were quite impressed by its landscape.
The journey through an almost empty area is challenging. The university town of Greifswald is picturesque. Beautiful brick buildings, small stores and relaxed cafés form the city center next to some panel buildings from the GDR past. We keep in mind well-organized training courses offered by the Alfried Krupp College. Stralsund is a must-visit because of its medieval center and the magnificent Ozeaneum in the harbour area.
We liked the seaside beaches on Usedom in Zinnowitz, Heringsdorf and Ahlbaeck. The seaside is characterized by long piers and charming summer residences along the beaches. Stoertebek beer tastes particularly good with fish dishes. Each of these places is ideal for a relaxing vacation.
A trip to Ruegen is also worthwhile. On a boat trip from Sassnitz to the chalk coast, you can get a good view of the chalk cliffs. During our visit, however, the Baltic Sea was stormy. You can explore the chalk coast best from inland on a hike through the nature reserve. The spa town of Binz with its long promenade and lovely sandy beach is elegant.
